Does God Exist? The Story of the Barber Shop

Does God Exist? The Story of the Barber Shop
A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation and talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.
"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.
"Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me."
"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! Because people do not look to God for help is why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

The Comfort Zone

Every person in the world likes to live within their own "comfort zone". A comfort zone really isn't a physical place but more of a mental state of mind. If people REALLY want to grow and be successful in their jobs or in life, they need to take a chance to step outside of their comfort zone and face the challenges that will be presented to them. The following poem offers some good thoughts about stepping outside of one's "comfort zone".

The Comfort Zone
I use to have a Comfort Zone
Where I knew I couldn't fail
The same four walls of busy work
Were really more like jail.

I longed so much to do the things
I'd never done before,
But I stayed inside my Comfort Zone
And paced the same old floor

I said it didn't matter,
That I wasn't doing much
I said I didn't care for things
Like diamonds, furs and such

I claimed to be so busy
With the things inside my zone,
But deep inside I longed for
Something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by,
Just watching others win.
I held my breath and stepped outside
And let the change begin.

I took a step and with new strength
I'd never felt before,
I kissed my Comfort Zone "goodbye"
And closed and locked the door.

If you are in a Comfort Zone,
Afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were
At one time filled with doubt.

A step or two and words of praise,
Can make your dreams come true.
Greet your future with a smile,
Success is there for you!

The Day Jim Brown Fought Muhammad Ali

This is an amazing story that I found about two of the greatest athletes of all time and the one time that they faced off against each other. This is a short but fascinating account of this meeting.

The Day Jim Brown Fought Muhammad Ali
During his nine-year playing career, Hall of Famer and former Browns running back Jim Brown was known for his unmatched athleticism and legendary toughness. Not only was he the best player of his era, he was one of the best players ever. In addition to what he accomplished on the football field, in college at Syracuse, Brown was a second-team All-American in basketball and a first-team All-American in lacrosse.

Given that he excelled at just about anything he tried, it's not surprising that Brown briefly considered boxing after he retired from the NFL in 1965 at the age of 29. Specifically: Brown wanted to get in the ring with then-heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali. And not just for a sparring match but for a full-on fight.

Brown had introduced promoter Bob Arum to Ali, so Arum felt that he owed Brown the courtesy of at least checking with the heavyweight champ to gauge his interest. This was 1966, Brown was a year removed from football and pursuing his acting career, and Ali was 24 and in his prime.

So Arum took Brown's message to the champ. The details, via this fantastic profile of Arum (who turns 81 Saturday) by Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix.

"So I went to talk to Ali," Arum told Mannix. "He says, 'Jim wants to do what? Bring him here.' So I took him to Hyde Park in London, where Ali used to run. Ali said, 'Jimmy, here's what we're going to do: You hit me as hard as you can.' So Brown starts swinging and swinging, and he can't hit him. He's swinging wildly and not even coming close. This goes on for, like, 30 seconds. Then Ali hits him with this quick one-two to his face. Jimmy just stops and says, 'OK, I get the point.'"

Think about that for a second. Jim Brown -- who routinely trucked some the biggest, strongest and fastest athletes on the planet -- couldn't even touch Ali…that is mind-blowing!

Dealing with Stress: A Story to Remember

Dealing with Stress: A Story to Remember
The Professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students “How much do you think this glass weighs?”

’50gms!’…100gms!’…’125gms!’…the students answered.

“I really don’t know unless I weigh it,” said the professor, “but, my question is:
What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?”…. .

‘Nothing’…the students said.

‘OK what would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?’ the professor asked.
‘Your arm would begin to ache’ said one of the students.

“You’re right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?”
“Your arm could go numb; you might have severe muscle stress and paralysis and have to go to hospital for sure!” ventured another student. All the students laughed.

“Very good. But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?” asked the professor.

‘No’…. was the answer.

“Then what caused the arm ache & the muscle stress?”
The students were puzzled. “What should I do now to come out of pain?” asked professor again. “Put the glass down!” said one of the students.

“Exactly!” said the professor.

Life’s problems are something like this. Hold it for a few minutes in your head and they seem OK. Think of them for a long time and they begin to ache.

Dwell on it even longer and they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything.

It’s important to think of the challenges or problems in your life, but EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY is to ‘PUT THEM DOWN’ at the end of every day before you go to sleep…

That way, you are not stressed…you wake up every day fresh and strong and can handle any issue or challenge that comes your way!

So, when you start your day today, remember to ‘PUT THE GLASS DOWN’ TODAY!

Some Amazing Facts About Penguins!!

Some Amazing Facts About Penguins!!
No other bird goes so far into the harsh Antarctica area as the penguin. To insulate itself its body against the fierce cold, it has a complete covering of short feathers that extends down to its webbed feet. It gets all its food from the ocean and can also drink salt water.

The emperor penguin is the largest of the penguin family – about three to four feet tall. All penguins have wings but they cannot fly. Instead, their wings are used as flippers to swim extremely fast underwater. Special muscles give these wings great strength.

The emperor penguin does not build a nest. About a month after arriving on an ice barrier, a pair has a family of just one chick. Before the female lays the single egg, she goes several weeks without eating. Then about the middle of May the egg is laid. She turns its care over to the male and then dives into the ocean to feed, and she is gone for some weeks. As this is really the beginning of winter in the Antarctic, the male has a difficult time since there is no nest for the egg.

The Creator has provided a way to keep the egg warm. The male stands with his feet close together and rolls the egg on top of them. With the egg securely in place, “papa” pulls a soft pouch of skin down over it, making it snug and warm. He stands in this position – never moving or going for food and water for two months!!!

Here is something else that is amazing. Although “mama” has been away all this time, on the exact day the chick hatches she comes out of the ocean, her belly big and round from gorging on seafood. There are thousands of penguins that look just like her mate, but she goes right up to him. Then she takes over, putting her beak in the newly hatched chick’s mouth and feeding it from her full belly. She does this until it can take care of itself. Meanwhile, the skinny male takes to the water to find the food it needs.

Shortly after the chick is fully grown, it joins others on the ice floes, and the currents carry them north several hundred miles to the New Zealand area or to the tip of South America. The next May they repeat the cycle again! Interesting and fascinating stuff!
