What Lies On The Other Side of Life?

Have you ever wondered to yourself, what will it be like when my life here on earth is finished? What will it be like once we pass into the afterlife? Well, for those of us who believe that there is life after death and that there is a Supreme Being, the following story is a great illustration of what we could expect.

What Lies On The Other Side of Life?

A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said,

"Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side."

Very quietly, the doctor said,

"I don't know."

"You don't know? You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side of which came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.

Turning to the patient, the doctor said,

"Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear."
"I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing . . .

. . . I know my Master is there, and that is enough."

The Tree and a Boy: A Story About Parents

The Tree and a Boy: A Story About Parents
~ Author Unknown ~
inmagine.com
There was a very young boy, who used to spend time playing by a tree. One day he got bored and he said to the tree, "I'm bored, I've played with these toys too many times!" The tree replied, "OK, you can climb up on me and play on my branches." The boy got really happy with this suggestion and he had a lot of fun playing and sitting high up, on the branches of the tree.

When he started school, he spent more time away from the tree, but one day he came back to it, and the tree was overjoyed to see its young companion, and it encouraged him to climb on, but he refused. "My clothes are going to get dirty if I climb up on you." So the tree thought for a while, and said, "OK, bring a rope and tie it to me, and you can use my branches as a swing." The boy liked that idea, so he did that too, and would come back every other day to sit for a while on that swing. Whenever he used to get hot, the tree told him to rest in its shade.

As he got older, and moved on to college, times became harder on him and he ran short of food, so he went back to the tree which he had stopped visiting for a long time. The tree recognized him immediately and welcomed him, but he was hungry and complained to the tree, "I don’t have any food to eat; my stomach is cringing with hunger." So the tree said, "Pull down my branches and take off the fruit, and fill yourself up." The young guy didn’t even hesitate, but jumped up and tore off one of the smaller branches and ate to his fill. Over the weeks, he tore off all the branches and ate all the fruit.

After the fruits had all gone, he went away and didn’t come back to the tree. When he reached his middle ages, he came back to the tree and said to it, "I have been very successful in life. I have earned a lot of money, I have a huge house and I have found a great wife. Now I want to travel and see the world." The tree was now very old, but to help its longtime companion, it didn’t wait, and said, "Bring a saw, cut off my trunk and make a boat. Then you will see the wonders of the world." So again, without hesitation the man cut down the tree. The same tree which he had played on, ate its fruit, laid in its shade; he cut it down and made a boat. As soon as it was finished, he sailed away and wasn’t seen by his people again.

One day, an old man, walked past the tree. It hadn’t recovered from the time he had cut it down. He went up to the tree, but didn’t say anything. He felt the tears coming down from his eyes. This time the tree spoke in a faint voice, "I'm sorry. I don’t have a trunk for you to climb, nor fruit for you to eat, nor branches of shade for you to lie in. All I have now are my deep roots." The old man whispered, "That's fine. Tree roots are the best place to lie down, snuggle up and sleep after a long life."

The tree symbolizes our parents, and the boy symbolizes us. The moral of the story is that we use our parents like tissue paper, and use them all up, and don’t even give thanks, but they stay with us till the very end.

The King, a Mouse, and Their Friendship

This is the third and last story in my series of “Stories of Friendship.”
Life is short but the life of friendship is supposed to be long and everlasting. This short story of friendship makes you understand what friendship is and what you should keep in mind when someone offers you his or her friendship. You might already be familiar with this short story about friendship. If you are, you are advised to go and read it again. It will clarify the idea of friendship and make the concept of friendship clearer for you. In this story, you may find an important truth that you had not known until now.

The "King", a Mouse, and Their Friendship
jada-jada.blogspot
~ An Aesop fable ~
Once upon a time a Lion was sleeping in his den when a little Mouse began running up and down upon his body. This soon wakened the Lion.

Greatly angered, the ferocious beast placed his huge paw upon him, and opened his big jaws to swallow him.

"Pardon me, O King," the little Mouse begged for forgiveness: "let me go this time. What will you get if you kill me? Besides, who knows but what I may be able to help you when you meet some crisis someday?"

The Lion was amused at the idea of the little Mouse being able to help him. He lifted up his paw and let the mouse go. The little mouse thanked the lion and ran away as fast as he could.

Soon after this encounter, the Lion was caught in a trap laid by some hunters. He tried and tried to free himself from the terrible net of ropes that he was caught in. But all his efforts proved futile. He roared and roared in anger and helplessness. He knew that death was imminent. At the first light of the dawn, the hunters would arrive and carry him off to the King.

When the little Mouse heard the lion's cries, he immediately understood that the king was in some great danger. He ran fast in the direction where the lion's cries were coming from. Soon he arrived at the spot where the lord of the jungle was trapped. Seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, the mouse went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the great beast.

The mighty lion understood that even the smallest creatures can be of help if the need arises. That day on, the lion and the mouse became the best of friends. They were always there for each other.

Never underestimate friends
This short story of friendship makes you understand what friendship is all about. One should never underestimate friends because of their size or position. We must be friends with all kinds of people, even with those who are inferior to us in size, rank or social status. This is the message that I hope you learned through this short story.  So, never ignore the offer of friendship from anyone whom you consider beneath yourself in any way. One never knows who may help you in your times of need.
