A Trip Into Yesteryear: 1904

Take a fascinating journey back in time and discover what life was like in the days of old in 1904!
THE YEAR WAS 1904. Just a little more than one hundred years ago.
According to truthbook.com, here are some of the U.S. statistics for 1904:
- The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years.

- Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub.

- Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

- A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.

- There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads.

- The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

- Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union.

- The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.

- The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents an hour.

- The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

- A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a
veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000
per year.

- More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home.

- Ninety percent of all U.S. physicians had no college education. Instead, they attended medical
schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as
"substandard."

- Sugar cost 4 cents a pound. Eggs were 14 cents a dozen. Coffee was 15 cents a pound.

- Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

- Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason.

- The five leading causes of death in the U.S were:
  1. Pneumonia and influenza
  2. Tuberculosis
  3. Diarrhea
  4. Heart disease
  5. Stroke

- The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't
been admitted to the Union yet.

- The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was 30 !

- Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented.

- There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

- Two of 10 U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated
high school.

- Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drugstores.
According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind,
regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."

- Eighteen % of households in the U.S. had at least one full-time servant or domestic.

- There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S.

- And I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you in a
matter of seconds! Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years .. it staggers the
mind.

What a difference a century makes!

Things That Cancer Cannot Do

Cancer is so limited...

It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.

An Important Way To Save Your Baby's Life

Every year hundreds of infants drown when they accidentally fall into pools or other bodies of water. The life saving technique will save lives if parents take the time to teach their children.

The video that I included in this blog is one of the most important videos that I ever saw. Each year, hundreds, if not thousands of infants and toddlers drown in swimming pools, lakes, ponds, and other bodies of water. The simple technique that you will see is an incredible method that has proven to have saved hundreds of children in the past few years. It is astonishing. I have never seen anything like it and never would have thought that an infant could be taught to stay on his back, floating and breathing for so long.

As a father of two boys (now young men), when I watched this clip, it not only made me uneasy but it made me feel very sad for the people who have lost their children. I thought to myself that sadly, many of these kids could have been saved or prevented themselves from drowning if they had been trained in this technique.

So, if you are a parent of a toddler or a young child…PLEASE watch this video and take the appropriate steps to make sure that they will be safe if an unfortunate situation occurs. In most cases, children as young as 6 months to 12 months old learn how to roll on their backs to float and survive…often fully clothed. They also learn to stay afloat for quite some time!

Our children are precious and every one of us wants the best for them. Prepare now, plan for the future and the safety of your loved ones.

Lastly, I would like to point out, that I am in NO WAY associated with this program but I AM someone who really hopes and prays that you will take my message to heart. This is something that kids NEED to be taught. Train a baby how to float and you will raise their chance of survival if they fall into water.
